Tucked away up on a crest of a ridge, in an old agricultural landscape and with magnificent views over the surrounding forest covered hills and valleys with deep lakes, you will find our paradise Idhult nature reserve.
The beautiful and unique lands at Idhult have ancient origins that date back to the Middle Ages, and which has been cultivated and kept up until this day.
In the midst of all this, we welcome you to stay in our home located right in the calm old village.
Come. Be. Enjoy.
Our house is homely decorated with a rustic charm and bohemian touch. With antique anatolian rugs, rustic old furniture, subtile warm lighting, green plants, cozy wollen blankets and cushions, our home is catered for you to feel grounded and at home.
The kitchen has a large and rustic kitchen table with up to 8 people, placed next to an old fireplace to keep you warm. It is equipped with everything you might need for your heartful dinners. As food lovers, the kitchen has become our favorite space in the house and with many warm memories from dinners and gatherings with friends. It is fully equipped with one large fridge and freezer, a Mocca master for delicious coffees in the morning, kettle, food processor, toaster etc.
The living room is where we gather at night. Sometimes we take out some big cushions to sit on in front of the fireplace to enjoy the sounds of the crackling fire with a large cup of warm tea. Sometimes it is also nice to roll out the yogamat for a yummy practice or meditation session. If you are in the mood for a movie night, there is a projector and screen you can use (connect to your device through HDMI or Google Chromecast). Or just go for a quiet night and take a book from the book shelve and read whatever you fancy.
On the second floor you have access to four bedrooms - one master bedroom with a double bed (180x200) and a single bed (90x200), one single bedroom with one single bed (can also be used as home office), and two small attic spaces furnished with one small double bed (140x200) each. Duvets and pillows are included.
We have a large garden with lots of free space for rest or play, and a terrace where you can do barbeque. There is also a furnished glass terrace if you want to relax in a sunny place inside - without doubt our very favorite spot all year round, except it can get quite cold there in midwinter. If needed, we have a gas heater for this space.
The other red house on the property is private but will be vacant during your stay, so you will be all by yourself. There is only one permanent neighbor 200 m away, and our neighbors across the fence are only staying there sometimes. They are very friendly people who might say hello and talk about the weather without intruding on your privacy. Most of the time all you will hear is the wind, birds and animals. You are most likely to see quite a lot of deers hanging around, sometimes in the garden at night or around the village and nature reserve. They are very harmless though!
*Good to know is that there is no WiFi in the house, but if you need to use the Internet you can easily share it from your mobile phone.
Both of us work from home with video calls, and watch Netflix in the evenings, and the Internet works good.
Our farm is located in the middle of Idhult nature reserve, meaning that there are many beautiful and scenic trails just around the house. There is one 2km trail around the nature reserve which we strongly recommend, and a magnificent view point only 200m from the house.
There is no public transportation nearby available and the nearest option for groceries is in Kisa or Rimforsa, ca 30km away. Having said that, you will be rewarded by a quiet and scenic place with few other people around. The region is known as one of the most beautiful and serene in Östergötland, and offers great options for hikers and nature lovers. There are many hidden gems that we will happily share with you. If you are interested, there is a possibility to rent kajaks in the nearby village Björkfors (10km) at their charming hostel. We strongly recommend a visit!
When you need some more stimulation, Kisa is a quaint town just 30 min drive away. The drive from the house to there is very scenic so make sure you drive calm and easy and enjoy the landscape :) In Kisa, there is a nice store that sells local produce and also an old and cosy café that also hosts a museum on its' top floor, mainly about the large emigration that took place in the region during the 19th century (Cafe Colombia).
On the way to Rimforsa, there is also a nice farm that has a big greenhouse selling flowers and plants and they also have a very friendly cafe where you can try the regions famous cheesecake. If you need to visit an even bigger town, Linköping is only 1 hour drive away.
