Welcome to our wonderful Swedish holiday home in Fågelfors!
We bought the house in the summer of 2022 and then, after some hard work and plenty of surprises, completely renovated it from the ground up by early 2024. It is now finished, however, and can be used without any restrictions. As we (unfortunately) cannot always be there, we rent out the house for the rest of the time.
It is a typical Swedish timber-framed house, close to the water and in the heart of the Swedish region of Småland – the home of Astrid Lindgren – and is also situated on the edge of the Swedish Glass Kingdom.
The house is suitable for up to 6 people and a small child, and has 3 bedrooms, each with 2 beds (one room also has a cot measuring 60x120), two toilets, a well-equipped kitchen with a large dining table, a cosy living room with a large TV with satellite reception and a fireplace with a wood-burning insert, a ‘library’ with a home office workspace (monitor, printer, free Wi-Fi – please bring your own computer) and plenty of games and toys for children, as well as a bathroom with a sauna. There is a washing machine and a tumble dryer.
There is a large garden, a wooden terrace with garden furniture, a Weber charcoal barbecue, and 6 guest bicycles for free use.
The house is heated by a geothermal heat pump.
The house is non-smoking and suitable for people with pet hair allergies, as pets are not permitted (we ask for your understanding). Unfortunately, the house is not wheelchair accessible.
Right outside the house, you can swim in the dammed-up River Nötan – provided the stones on the bank don’t bother you – but we usually cycle for a few minutes to the lake, which is about 1 km away; there’s a great swimming spot there, a jetty, a small sandy beach, as well as changing rooms and a toilet.
The village of Fågelfors has a small grocery shop stocked with everything you need for day-to-day life, as well as a pub. The brilliant wood-fired bakery, which also served pizza and tarte flambée, has unfortunately moved to the neighbouring village. There are further shops in Högsby, 15 km away.

Electricity is included in June, July and August; in the other months, we charge 4.00 SEK or 35ct per kWh – that’s roughly the price we’re currently paying ourselves. The house is usually let on a weekly basis from Saturday to Saturday; there is a compulsory end-of-stay cleaning charge of 1,200 SEK or 120 €.
Unfortunately, we are currently unable to provide guests with bed linen and towels, so please bring your own bed linen (sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases) and towels.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch!
If you have more questions, we’d also be happy to have a chat on the phone.
