Quiet cottage on a turn-of-the-century farm

Welcome to a traditional Öland farmstead with roots dating back to the 1700s, where life moves at its own gentle pace. The atmosphere feels straight out of the 1960s, while the kitchen and bathroom have been newly renovated and are fresh and modern. The traditional enclosed courtyard farmstead, built around the turn of the last century, sits in the small private hamlet of Ormöga – just five farms, no prying eyes, and a view stretching for miles across open fields, with the sea close by. In summer, horses with their foals often graze in the neighbouring pastures.

Here we rent out a charming cottage of its own, 38 m², with a bedroom, living area and kitchenette. The cottage has a private south-facing patio with its own little garden and a leafy arbour – perfect for long breakfasts, a book in the shade or a glass of wine as the sun sinks over the fields. The farmstead lies on the eastern side of the island, which makes everything much calmer. The kitchen has been newly renovated, as has the bathroom.

The surroundings
Conveniently located in the middle of the island, level with Borgholm and Köpingsvik, making for easy excursions to both the northern and southern parts of Öland. From the farmstead it is 10–15 minutes by bicycle to lovely bathing beaches (bicycles available subject to availability). In about 30 minutes by bike you reach Köpingsvik, with its sandy beaches, restaurants, shop, minigolf and homemade ice cream. A short hour's cycle takes you to Borgholm with its castle ruin and lively summer scene. Driving to, for example, the magnificent beach at Böda Sand, the Trollskogen forest and the Långe Erik lighthouse takes less than an hour, and it is 40 minutes to Kalmar with its splendid castle, museums and shopping centre.

Nearby you will find several bathing spots, the popular Karamellkokeriet (sweet factory), Kapelludden with the Saint Birgitta chapel and a stone cross from the 1300s, and first-class birdwatching in the open landscape, including the beautiful Montagu's harrier, the white-tailed eagle and more. Here in central Öland you are met by a landscape of sweeping fields, old stone walls and a horizon that never ends.
