This 18th-century cottage is centrally located on Vatuland with views of the harbor and the sea all the way to the Koster Islands. It is 150 meters to Strömstad station and Konditori Kaffedoppet. The back is secluded with a patio where you can enjoy the peace and quiet even though you are in the middle of town.
The kitchen is simple but fully equipped with a stove, oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, kettle and coffee maker. Of course, there is all the crockery and cookware you could need. The bathroom is small with a sink, shower and toilet.
"Kullehuset" was built sometime in the 18th century in Strömstad, which at that time was inhabited by fishermen and sailors. Originally it was a so-called couple's cottage, which meant that the house was divided in half and that each family got 20 square meters each. At the back there was an outdoor toilet and inside the house each had their own simple kitchen. You can really understand how cramped it must have been.
The name "Kulle" comes from the elderly man who lived in the house at the beginning of the 20th century. He was a misfit who had traveled the seven seas for most of his life but who ended his days alone in this house.
In the 1970s, this small cottage was carefully renovated and opened up to the roof ridge and furnished two sleeping lofts. The layout is still the same as then and thanks to the sleeping lofts, the cottage is perceived as relatively spacious despite only being 40 square meters.
From the sheltered location at the back, you can enjoy the outstanding view of the harbor entrance and the sea out towards Koster. On the patio you can eat your meals or lie down and rest in a sun lounger. In the outhouse there is a small grill, firewood for heating and some utensils.
The marina is just a short walk away with restaurants, pubs, ice cream parlors and fish shops and more. You can even swim in the harbor itself at what is called Seglarholmen and which used to be a small islet but now has a land connection via a jetty. For day trips with sun and swimming, the tour boats are recommended that often go to different islands in Strömstad's wonderful archipelago.
Strömstad is a fantastic little summer town with many tourists and the harbor is bustling with life. In the evenings, many of the restaurants have live music of good quality but of course the music can be heard over a large part of Strömstad.
Parking for a regular car is on the short side of the house but you can also park on the street. However, it is quite narrow, so this is not recommended for longer periods. Parking is also not allowed every other Monday, as the garbage is collected then.
The entire house is at the guest's disposal. On the ground floor there is a kitchen, dining area, bathroom, wardrobe and living room with TV and fireplace. The TV is a so-called "smart TV" which means you can log in to your streaming services in addition to the usual channels. You use your own wifi via your mobile.
There are two sleeping lofts, one larger with three single beds and one slightly smaller with a double bed. There is also a very basic sofa bed on the ground floor.
We do not provide sheets, towels, soap and shampoo, so guests need to bring these themselves.
