Welcome to Our Barnhouse by the Sea – A Peaceful Retreat on Flatön
Be among the very first guests to stay in our newly built barnhouse – a light-filled and lovingly crafted home on our family farm dating back to 1873. Just an 800-metre stroll through the coastal forest takes you to the pier and the salt-sprayed granite shoreline.
Here, tradition meets modern comfort: reclaimed timber, handcrafted details, soft natural light and an exclusive kitchen with a Lofra stove. Outdoors, you’ll find a hammock in the meadow, a grill area and a freestanding outdoor bathtub beneath the open sky.
Flatön is located in Bohuslän, just north of Orust – about 1.5 hours from Gothenburg. The island is accessible year-round by car ferry from Dragsmark or Malö/Morlanda.
Perfect for those who seek:
• peace and quiet
• swimming in the sea
• outdoor bath relaxation
• hiking & cycling (two bicycles included)
We speak Swedish, German and English, and are always nearby should you need anything – while still respecting your privacy.
The Accommodation
The barnhouse is spread over two floors and offers approximately 85 sqm of living space, with an additional 60 sqm traditional barn (loge) available from 2026 for dining, yoga or relaxed gatherings.
Ground Floor
Fully equipped open-plan kitchen with dining space for up to 10 guests
Bathroom with small cast-iron bathtub, hand shower, toilet and washbasin
Entrance via a wide hallway with immediate view towards the kitchen
Wooden interiors throughout – spruce, pine and chestnut, some sourced from our own forest
First Floor
Spacious living room with sofa, armchairs and solid oak coffee table
Glazed double doors overlooking the loge and sheep meadow
Two bedrooms facing north (cooler in summer), each with double beds that can be separated
Natural-material bedding and floors adorned with our own sheepskins
Adjustable lighting for a soft and cozy atmosphere
Loge – Traditional Barn Space (Included from 2026)
The adjacent 60 sqm loge is a beautiful, airy timber space where summer light filters through the old wooden boards. Perfect for shared meals, morning yoga, quiet reading or creative projects. It stays naturally cool on hot days and glows in the warm light of sunset.
(Until 2026, the loge is only available on request.)
Craftsmanship & Restoration
Every door and window has been reclaimed from the 1800s and carefully restored. They are painted with linseed oil and retain their original patina. Hinges, latches and locks are all historic, functional and preserved with care – adding character and soul to the house.
