Welcome to our newly built barnhouse – a peaceful retreat by the sea
You will be among our very first guests to stay in this bright and carefully crafted barnhouse on our family farm dating back to 1873, located just 800 meters from the pier and the salt-sprayed rocky coastline.
Here tradition meets comfort: reclaimed wood, handcrafted details, and an exclusive kitchen with a Lofra stove. Outside, enjoy the hammock in the meadows, the grill area, and an outdoor bathtub under the open sky. Flatön lies in Bohuslän just north of Orust, about 1.5 hours from Gothenburg. The island is accessible by car ferry from both Dragsmark and Malö/Morlanda.
Perfect for nature lovers seeking:
• tranquility
• sea swimming
• outdoor bathtub relaxation
• hiking and cycling (two bicycles are available for guests)
We speak Swedish, German, and English – and are readily available should you have any questions. Book today and become part of the barnhouse’s first season on Flatön.
The accommodation
The barnhouse spans two floors and is approximately 85 sqm. It consists of two bedrooms accommodating four guests in total. The ground floor features a fully equipped open kitchen with a large dining area seating up to ten people, as well as a bathroom with a small cast-iron bathtub, toilet, and washbasin.
Kitchen and bathroom
You enter the open kitchen directly through a wide hallway. To the left is the bathroom with bathtub, toilet, and washbasin. The kitchen features a built-in corner bench and a large dining table for shared meals. The walls and ceilings are made of wood – spruce, pine, and chestnut – some of it sourced from our own forest.
Upstairs and living area
Upstairs you will find a large living room with a cozy sitting area, including a sofa, two armchairs, and a solid oak coffee table. A glazed double door overlooks the barn and the adjacent sheep pasture.
Bedrooms
Both bedrooms face north to stay cool during summer and are close to the island’s birdlife. They feature double beds that can be separated into singles. The beds and linens are made of natural materials, and the floors are adorned with sheepskins from our own flock. The lighting is dimmable to create a cozy atmosphere.
Craftsmanship and restoration
All doors and windows have been reclaimed from the 1800s and meticulously restored. They are painted with linseed oil, preserving their original character. All hinges, latches, and locks are recycled and fully functional, contributing to the barnhouse’s unique charm.
Guest access
Guests have full access to the living areas: hall, kitchen, bathroom, living room, and two bedrooms. Free parking is available at the property, and an EV charger (Type 2, 11 kW) can be used at no extra cost.
Adjacent to the barnhouse is a loge used by us as a workshop and social space. It is not included in the rental but may be available upon request.

The accommodation suits friends, families with children over 10 years, and single households. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed. Our hunting dog, Asta, lives on the property.
We live partly on the farm and are often nearby if needed but respect your privacy.
We warmly welcome you to experience the tranquility of Flatön – and let the barnhouse become part of your summer from the very first moment.
