Furusund, the island by the fairway, has for centuries been an important meeting place and harbor, where seafarers sought protection for wind and weather. During the 19th century, a bathhouse and a social housing were built. Regular steamboat traffic from Stockholm was opened, hotels were built and villas were available for rent. The summer guests came with white clothes, wide hats and umbrellas. In the salon, music and theater were played, the Hammerska barn had performances. The bath houses offered lovely baths and today's events were ventilated. Furusund has had a special ability to attract interesting people, August Strindberg who has his own road named after him, Astrid Lindgren had a summer house here, the great smuggler Lill-John, Evert Taube, Karl von Schewen eg. Even today, Ålandsviken on Furusund is the obvious harbour for seafarers. One summer day, the bay is full of sails and boats at docks and buoys.
There are canoe and bicycle rentals in the guest harbour. Hiking tours with a guide in the cultural area are arranged during the summer. An extensive guide can also be purchased on site for own hiking trails. A wonderful excursion is also a boat to Saltkråkan with guided tours.
